Breed History[]
The Irish Setter is a gundog that originated from Ireland. This breed was developed in the 18th century by combining English Setters, spaniels, pointers, and Gordon Setters. The first of the breed were dubbed “red spaniels” or “modder rhu”, which is Gaelic for “red dog”. The first Irish Setter imported to America was named Elcho, and he arrived in 1875. His arrival quickly sparked popularity of the breed, and the Irish Setter became one of the most popular breeds in America as well as conformation champions between 1874 and 1948. They became even more popular after the books and movie “Big Red” were released, which featured an Irish Setter named Big Red. President Nixon also had an Irish Setter named King Timahoe.

The Irish Setter was added to the Wasabi Dog Sim gameplay officially on December 7th, 2020 during pre-alpha testing for the December daily content updates. The breed has 4 standard breed colors in the game with currently 2 color-modifying sushi. Within the game, the breed is considered a Sporting breed group and can thus enter competitions listed as Sporting-group only.
