Breed History
The Newfoundland, or Newf, is a Canadian Working dog that helped fishermen pull nets and haul wood. These dogs have a large lung capacity and are large enough to drag a drowning person to shore. While they are bred for the water, they are still used for pulling carts in Newfoundland and Labrador. Newfs are a beloved breed, being a favorite of President James Buchanan and Lord Byron, whose monument in Newstead Abbey also shows his Newfoundland, Boatswain. This dog even took park of the 8,000 mile journey Lewis and Clark took across America. Newfs are a big breed, weighing in at a whopping 150 pounds for males and between 100 to 120 pounds for females. They stand at 28 inches from the shoulder and have a flat, coarse coat that comes in black, brown, grey, and black-and-white coat that was popularized by artist Sir Edwin Landseer.
Breed In Wasabi
The Newfoundland was added to the Wasabi Dog Sim gameplay officially on November 24th, 2020 during pre-alpha testing. This breed was sponsored by player Tami. The breed has 10 standard breed colors in the game with currently 5 color-modifying sushi. Within the game, the breed is considered a Working breed group and can thus enter competitions listed as Working-group only.
Breed Stats
Each dog breed within Wasabi Dog Sim is given their own breed bonuses to their breed stats based upon realistic dog breed standards. Each breed is awarded two "High" bonus stats, two "Average" bonus stats, one "Above Average" bonus stat, and one "Low" bonus stat. This helps balance the gameplay upon the various dog breeds within the game and as helps prevent pet shop born puppies stick close to the breed standard upon entry into the game.
